WordPress Plugins will help you optimise your website and take your business to a whole new level.

A WordPress plugin is a software programmed to perform certain functions. Plugins are great if you are looking to extend the functionalities of your site.

While WordPress plugins usually integrate seamlessly with most sites, it is advisable to install only the plugins that are truly necessary for your blog/website.

Personal blogs and small business blogs might need only a few plugins for speed, social media sharing, contact forms, SEO and backup.

However, you might need to install up to 20 plugins on websites that receive high traffic, which makes it overwhelming to find the right plugins for your site.  This list will help you quickly choose the right plugins for your site.

Akismet AntiSpam

Akismet is for everyone with a WordPress site.

This Plugin will help you eliminate spam, whether you are running a personal blog or a business website.

Akismet works to identify suspicious content, links or comments and automatically blocks them. Akismet even allows you to view the spammy content from the status history and gives you the option to completely de4lete such content from your website.

Akismet is only free for personal use.  Here are the pricing options for the premium version.

For beginners, it is worth noting the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com.  For starters, WordPress.org is an open-source platform, while wordpress.com is a commercial version. Read other differences between the two platforms in the aforementioned article.
